 January 2025 Update

Starting January 21, 2025 TrueLayer, our direct import provider for Europe, is retiring coverage for a number of countries. In order to continue offering direct import to our European customers, we are partnering with Plaid ↗️. As we transition, you may experience import outages, and unfortunately there are some banks we currently offer coverage for that will not be supported through Plaid. Check out the section below titled What Banks Are Losing Coverage? to learn which banks will be impacted.

This will happen sometime between January 21 and March 28, 2025. We apologize for this disruption and we are hopeful that we can restore coverage in the future. In the meantime, add transactions ↗️ manually to keep your spending plan up to date!

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How long will the coverage interruption last once TrueLayer retires coverage?

We don't currently have a timeline. To keep the outage to a minimum, we'll be transitioning to another import provider, Plaid, to offer direct import to YNABers in Europe. Plaid offers more coverage for European banks overall, but there's a chance your specific bank may not be supported. While we are hopeful that we can restore coverage in the future, we are unable to make any guarantees at this time.

Who will be the new import provider once TrueLayer retires coverage?

We are working with Plaid ↗️ to expand our European coverage. For more information on our import providers, please read our Privacy Policy ↗️ as well as our Security Policy ↗️. We want you to have the information you need to make an informed decision about using YNAB.

If you have suggestions or feedback about our import provider options, feel free to fill out our Feedback and Feature Request form ↗️.

Why am I being prompted to re-enter my credentials with Plaid?

We have been working diligently to transition accounts losing coverage through TrueLayer over to Plaid Europe ↗️. As such, we will be prompting users to reauthorize their impacted bank connections through Plaid in waves, starting this coming Monday, January 20, 2025.

A reminder before re-entering your credentials: Check your login information and reconcile your accounts ↗️ to prevent duplicate transactions. Additionally, payees may import differently at first. However, if you fix a payee ↗️ once YNAB will remember.

Which banks will no longer be supported once TrueLayer retires coverage?

Although we'll have expanded coverage through Plaid, we'll still be losing coverage for 15 banks. These banks will be removed from our list and we won't be able to troubleshoot issues with existing connections. You can find this list in the What Banks Are Losing Coverage? section above.

Which banks are currently supported (or will be supported) once TrueLayer retires coverage?

We will be introducing banks supported by Plaid in waves starting on January 20th. For currently supported banks, the best way to check coverage is to search for the bank in YNAB.

There is not currently a timeline for when UK banks supported by Plaid will be available. YNAB uses Plaid’s data product so you can check Plaid’s coverage here ↗️.

Follow these steps to link a new ↗️ or existing ↗️ account.

Why is my credit card/savings account/etc. missing from the list of accounts?

Not all account types fall under Open Banking™ and PSD2 regulations, so not all banks have provided access to these account types in their API (where TrueLayer can then get the accounts/transactions).

Can I have connections in both North America and Europe?

Yes!

What should I do if I need help with a connection or transaction issue?

Start with this troubleshooting guide ↗️ or reach out to our Support team ↗️ instead. While we may not be able to resolve the issue, we'd be happy to take a closer look at your connection.

If you're having trouble reauthorizing one of the 15 banks mentioned above, we don't want it to slow you down! Check out our other transaction entry methods ↗️ to keep your accounts accurate.

A reminder before re-entering your credentials: Check your login information and reconcile your accounts ↗️ to prevent duplicate transactions. Additionally, payees may import differently at first. However, if you fix a payee ↗️ once YNAB will remember.

How often does the import provider check for new transactions?

We ask our import provider to kick off an aggregation on a user’s behalf, which we do if a YNABer accesses their budget and it has been more than six hours since the last aggregation. For those who didn't open YNAB that day, we will have our import provider perform a nightly aggregation job in order to keep transactions fresh.

Our best recommendation is to then try searching by your country's abbreviation or name. If you still cannot find it, you'll see the option to Suggest an Institution in YNAB. We share these suggestions with our import providers on a regular basis. We can't guarantee if/when our import providers will make the institution available, but the data helps them prioritize which institutions have the most interest.
