## Overview

If your balance in YNAB is a little (or a lot) off track, reconciliation is the answer. Reconciling is the best way to fix an incorrect account balance, and it provides assurance that the numbers in your plan are correct. We recommend you reconcile your Cash and Credit accounts, such as checking, savings, and credit cards, **at least once a week**.

Below, we'll explain the balances and transaction statuses that come into play during that process. Don't worry if this is unfamiliar territory—we'll walk you through the complete steps to fix your account balance in our [full reconciliation guide](https://support.ynab.com/en_us/reconciling-accounts-a-guide-BJFE3fHys).

## Transaction Status

### iOS

Your transactions have one of four statuses in the account register:

* **Cleared:** Transactions that your bank knows about and have finished processing are considered "cleared".

    * In the account register, they're marked with a green C icon.

    * When you tap on the individual transaction and tap _Show more_, the "Cleared" option will be toggled on.

    * Your bank likely calls these transactions cleared or processed.

    * If you import transactions, many of them will be cleared in YNAB automatically.

    * Cleared transactions make up the [**Cleared Balance**](#balances) at the top of your register.

* **Uncleared:** These are transactions that your bank has not processed yet.

    * In the account register, they're marked with an unfilled C icon.

    * When you tap on the individual transaction and tap _Show more_, the "Cleared" option will be toggled off.

    * Your bank likely calls these pending transactions.

    * A transaction might be uncleared because your bank hasn’t yet received notice of the final transaction, or if you wrote a physical check that hasn’t been cashed.

    * Uncleared transactions make up the [**Uncleared Balance**](#balances) at the top of your register. If you don't see an Uncleared Balance at the top of your register, tap the _expand_ icon immediately to the right of your Working Balance to show both your Cleared and Uncleared balance.

* **Reconciled:** Once transactions have been reconciled in YNAB, they are locked and marked with a **lock icon**. 🔒

* **Pending:** When you’ve entered a pending transaction into your account, a clock icon appears.

## Comparing Balances

### iOS

Each of these balances in YNAB offers key information. You can find the all three by tapping the Working Balance at the top of the account register. If you'd like all three balances visible at all times in the account register, tap the _expand_ icon immediately to the right of your Working Balance. To hide the Uncleared and Cleared Balances, tap the _expand_ icon again.

* **Uncleared Balance**: The total of your uncleared transactions that the bank has not processed yet.

* **Cleared Balance**: The total of all your cleared transactions that the bank has finished processing. This is the balance we use for the reconciliation process. When reconciling, you’ll be comparing your cleared balance in YNAB with your cleared balance at the bank. Many banks call this balance the Current Balance, and it won't include pending transactions. Need help [finding your cleared balance](https://support.ynab.com/en_us/finding-your-cleared-balance-to-reconcile-an-overview-BkH27l_A9)? We've got you covered.

* **Working Balance**: This is the total of all transactions, both cleared and uncleared. **This is what your plan is based on** and is always displayed at the top of the account register.

While you won't be comparing your uncleared balance or working balance at this time, when you've finished reconciling, you will find that your uncleared balance is limited to just the transactions that are currently pending at the bank.

## Reconciled Timestamp

YNAB reminds you to reconcile frequently by including a timestamp of how many days it has been since you last reconciled. The reconciled timestamp appears inside an individual account register (not on the All Accounts or Spending view).

### Where Can I Find This in YNAB?

### iOS

From within the account register, tap the three dots icon in the top right corner. You'll see the timestamp shown under the _Reconcile_ option. If you've **not** yet reconciled, it will say "Reconciled never" in grayed-out text.

### Android

From within the account register, tap the three dots icon in the top right corner. You'll see the timestamp shown under the _Reconcile_ option. If you've **not** yet reconciled, it will say "Reconciled never" in grayed-out text.

### Web

From within the account register, this timestamp is shown under the account nickname. When you hover over the timestamp, it shows exactly how long it’s been, right down to the minute.
