# How to Add an Account

> This article explains how to add an account in YNAB. You can complete these steps on any of our apps.

Add an account in YNAB to record your income and track your spending. Choose to link the account for direct import or add an unlinked account, and decide on an account type.

### How to Add an Account

Here are step-by-step instructions for creating a new bank account in YNAB! 

#### Some of our account types have more specialized flows and prompts.

Because of this, we recommend using these separate and more specific instructions if you're adding any of the following accounts:

### iOS

1.  Tap the _Accounts_ tab at the bottom of the app.
    
2.  Tap  _Add Account._ 
    
3.  Search for your financial institution or click on one of the popular options to [Link](https://support.ynab.com/en_us/linked-accounts-B1991f2Cc) to a bank connection and import transactions. Or, select _Unlinked_ to enter your own transactions.
    
4.  Enter a nickname for the account. 
    
5.  Select an [account type](https://support.ynab.com/en_us/account-types-an-overview-BkmGM0qCq). 
    
6.  Enter today's current balance. (If you linked the account, your balance should import automatically.)
    
7.  Tap _Next_.
    
8.  On the Success page, tap _Done_ to complete the process and find your new account in your list!
    

#### Adding Multiple Accounts

When linking accounts, you can add multiple accounts from the same bank at once. After you connect to your bank, select the accounts from the provided list, edit the account details if necessary, and follow the prompts to finish.

### Android

1.  Tap the _Accounts_ tab.
    
2.  Tap  _Add Account._ 
    
3.  Search for your financial institution or click on one of the popular options to [Link](https://support.ynab.com/en_us/linked-accounts-B1991f2Cc) to a bank connection and import transactions. Or, select _Unlinked_ to enter your own transactions.
    
4.  Enter a nickname for the account. 
    
5.  Select an [account type](https://support.ynab.com/en_us/account-types-an-overview-BkmGM0qCq). 
    
6.  Enter today's current balance. (If you linked the account, your balance should import automatically.)
    
7.  Tap _Next_. 
    
8.  On the Success page, tap _Done_ to complete the process and find your new account in your list.

1.  Click the _Add Account_ button near the bottom of the left sidebar.

3.  Enter a nickname for the account.
    
4.  Select an [account type](https://support.ynab.com/en_us/account-types-an-overview-BkmGM0qCq). 
    
5.  Enter today's current balance. (If you linked the account, your balance should import automatically.)
    
6.  Click _Next_. 
    
7.  Click the _Add Another_ button, or click _Done_ if you're finished.
