# How to Edit and Delete Transactions

> Whether a transaction imported or you've entered it yourself, you can take a variety of actions with it—including editing and deleting!

## How to Edit Transactions

### iOS

1.  Tap the _Spending_ tab.
    
2.  Tap on a transaction to bring up the Edit screen.
    
3.  You can then tap on any field to edit it: the amount itself, Payee, Category, Date, Cleared state, Flag, Memo, or Repeat. You can even change the **account** the transaction is in, from right there in the transaction!
    
4.  Tap _Save_ when you're done with the adjustments. 
    

#### Category Suggestions

For payees you've used before, we automatically select the most-recently-used category for this payee. We also suggest the five most recently used categories for that payee. We make it easy for you to regularly switch categories if you need to!

### Android

1.  Tap the _Spending_ tab.
    
2.  Tap on a transaction to bring up the Edit screen.
    
3.  You can then tap on any field to edit it: the amount itself, Payee, Category, Date, Cleared state, Flag, Memo, or Repeat. You can even change the **account** the transaction is in, from right there in the transaction!
    
4.  Tap _Save_ when you're done with the adjustments.

### Web

1.  From the **web app**, click on an account (or _All Accounts_) in the left sidebar.
    
2.  Click twice on a transaction or right-click it to start editing.
    
3.  You can then click on any field in the transaction to edit it: Date, Payee, Category, Memo, Outflow or Inflow_,_ and the cleared status. (If you're in the **All Accounts** register, you can also adjust which account the transaction is in). 
    
4.  Click the _Save_ button once you've finished editing.
    

#### Category Suggestions

## How to Take Other Actions with Transactions

You can take a variety of actions on your transactions to keep your plan accurate and up to date. You can mark them as cleared or uncleared, approve or reject, and match or unmatch imported transactions with existing ones. Additionally, you can enter scheduled transactions early, move transactions to a different account, duplicate, or make them repeat for recurring expenses.

### iOS

1.  Tap the _Spending_ tab.
    
2.  Instead of tapping on the transaction to edit it, tap _Select_ at the top of the screen to display circles to the left of each transaction.
    
3.  Select a transaction by tapping its circle.
    
4.  Selecting the transaction gives you a variety of different action options along the bottom of the screen, including the _More_ button (three dots icon) which opens up another pop-up with further options. The options depend on the current state of the transaction, but here are some of the possible actions.
    
    *   approve or reject
        
    *   categorize
        
    *   duplicate
        
    *   flag
        
    *   delete
        
    *   clear or unclear
        
    *   match or unmatch
        
    *   move
        
5.  **You can select multiple transactions to make bulk edits all at once, too!** Tap as many at once as you'd like and then use the _More_ button (three dots icon ) at the bottom of the screen to access all the options. You'll also notice a selected total appear at the bottom of the screen. It is not possible to edit memos, rename payees, or categorize credit card payments to more than one transaction at once. 
    

**💡Shortcut alert:** You can access the options menu for a single transaction by long-pressing the transaction.

### Android

1.  Tap the _Spending_ tab.
    
2.  Instead of tapping on the transaction to edit it, long press on any transaction to display checkboxes to the left of each transaction. 
    
3.  Select a transaction by tapping its checkbox.
    
4.  Selecting the transaction gives you a variety of different action options along a menu toolbar at the bottom of the screen (including a vertical three dots icon button which opens up a window of further options). The options you'll have available depend on the current state of the transaction, but here are some of the possible actions.
    
    *   approve or reject
        
    *   categorize
        
    *   clear or unclear
        
    *   flag
        
    *   duplicate
        
    *   move
        
    *   match
        
    *   delete
        
5.  **You can select multiple transactions to make bulk edits all at once, too!** Tap as many at once as you'd like, and then tap the vertical three dot icon button at the bottom right of your screen. You'll notice a count of the multiple selected transactions on the bottom menu, as well as at the top of your screen with a selected total. It is not possible to edit dates, memos, rename payees, or categorize credit card payments to more than one transaction at once. 
    

### Web

1.  From the **web app**, click on an account (or _All Accounts_) in the left sidebar.
    
2.  Select one (or multiple) transactions by clicking the square checkbox to the left. The number of selected transactions and their total will appear in the upper right corner of the register. (It is not possible to rename payees or categorize credit card payments to more than one transaction at once, but it is possible to bulk edit memos in the web app.) 
    
3.  An [action bar](https://support.ynab.com/en_us/ynab-glossary-a-guide-BJd80SORq#actionbar) will appear with suggested actions to take with your transactions, with additional options in the More section. Here are some of the possible actions:
    
    *   Mark as Cleared or Mark as Uncleared
        
    *   Approve or Reject
        
    *   Match or Unmatch
        
    *   Enter Now, Duplicate, or Make Repeating
        
    *   Flag
        
    *   Memo
        
    *   Categorize
        
    *   Move to Account
        
    *   Delete
        

#### Right Click

You can also right click transactions to edit them.

## How to Duplicate Transactions

### iOS

1.  Tap the _Spending_ tab.
    
2.  Instead of tapping on the transaction to edit it, tap _Select_ at the top of the screen to display circles to the left of each transaction.
    
3.  Select the transaction (or multiple transactions) by tapping the circle to the left of the transaction. If selecting multiple transactions, just make sure only the ones you wish to duplicate are selected.
    
4.  Tap the _More_ button (three dots icon ) at the bottom of the screen.
    
5.  Choose the _Duplicate_ option in the menu.
    
6.  Adjust the date as necessary on the newly duplicated transactions. 
    

**💡Shortcut reminder:** You can access the options menu for a single transaction by long-pressing the transaction. 

### Android

1.  Tap the _Spending_ tab.
    
2.  Long press on any transaction to display checkboxes to the left of each transaction. 
    
3.  Select multiple transactions by tapping each checkbox. If selecting multiple transactions, just make sure **only** the ones you wish to duplicate are selected.
    
4.  Tap the vertical three dot icon at the bottom of the screen.
    
5.  Choose the _Duplicate_ option in the menu.
    
6.  Adjust the date as necessary on the newly duplicated transactions.
    

### Web

1.  From the **web app**, click on an account (or _All Accounts_) in the left sidebar.
    
2.  Click on a transaction once to select it.
    
3.  Click _More_ then _Duplicate_, and adjust the date as necessary.

## How to Delete Transactions

### iOS

1.  Tap the _Spending_ tab.

3.  Tap _Delete_.
    
4.  Confirm that this is correct on the pop up window by tapping _Delete_ again. You're done!
    

**To make bulk deletions**, tap _Select_ at the top of the screen to display circles to the left of each transaction. Select multiple transactions by tapping each circle. Tap the three dots icon button at the bottom of the screen and choose _Delete._ Confirm that this is correct on the pop up window by tapping _Delete_ again.

When you delete a transaction, it's gone—like it never existed. It no longer affects your account balance or the plan. If you accidentally delete a transaction and realize you need it back, you can recreate it and enter it again.

### Android

1.  Tap the _Spending_ tab.

4.  Confirm that this is correct on the pop up window by tapping _Delete_ again. You're done!

#### What does deleting transactions do?

When you delete a transaction, it's gone—like it never existed. It no longer affects your account balance or the plan.

You **can** undo, though—if you delete a transaction and realize you want to keep it, click the _Undo_ button . Please note, though, that it will only work before you refresh your browser or log out.
