## How the Feature Works

This feature uses the authentication method you’ve set up via your **phone settings**. That may be Touch/Face ID on iOS, or a fingerprint, passcode, or pattern on Android. If you don’t have authentication set up on your device, the option won't be available in YNAB.

Once the feature is enabled, you'll need to provide authentication when you open YNAB or when you switch apps to YNAB after a five-minute grace period.

#### Logging Out

On **iOS 18**, Biometric Identification settings are preserved even after logout.
On **Android** and **iOS 17** devices, logging out or making an account change that logs you out will automatically turn off Biometric Identification—you can re-enable it when you log back in!

## How to Enable and Disable Authentication

### iOS

1. From your home screen touch and hold the YNAB app icon until the quick actions menu opens.

2. Tap _Require Face ID_ (or Touch ID or passcode), or _Don't Require Face ID_ (or Touch ID or passcode).

3. If enabling, Tap _Require Face ID_ (or Touch ID or passcode) again. If disabling, skip to step 4.

4. Authenticate using Face ID (or Touch ID or a passcode). Remember, if you don't have authentication set up on your **device**, the option won't be available in YNAB.

### Android

1. Tap the _Home_ tab.

2. Tap the three dots icon at the top right of the screen.

3. Tap _Settings & Privacy_.

4. Toggle the _App Lock_ option **on** or **off**. Remember, if you don't have authentication set up on your **device**, the option won't be available in YNAB.

5. You'll be prompted to authenticate immediately.

On **Android** devices, enabling App Lock will disable your ability to take screenshots within the app. If you want to take a screenshot, you can do this by temporarily turning off App Lock using the steps above. Once you've gathered the screenshots you need, you can toggle it right back on!
