Learn how YNAB handles payments to your credit card the first time they import into your linked account. Set up your accounts to recognize these transactions as credit card payments.

When your first payment clears your bank and imports, YNAB may not know to make it a credit card payment. In this scenario, one of the following will happen:

1. If you [enter the payment manually](https://support.ynab.com/en_us/credit-card-payments-a-guide-r1_506Q1j#enter) before it imports, the imported transaction will match up with the one you entered. **YNAB will now recognize** the transaction.

2. If you don't enter your first credit card payment manually before it imports, it may not be recognized as a credit card payment. Instead, it may show as two separate transactions—an outflow in your checking and an inflow in your credit card account. You'll need to follow the steps below to manually combine the two transactions as a credit card payment. YNAB will remember this setup for your next payment.

## How to Manually Set an Imported Payment to a Credit Card Payment

Here's what to do if your payment does **not** import as a credit card payment initially. This process will connect the credit card account inflow to the bank account outflow as a credit card payment.

### iOS

1. Tap the imported transaction. You can find it on the Home tab by tapping “\[#\] new transactions” or on the Spending tab.

2. Using the drop down menu, select _Credit Card Payment_.

3. Tap _Paid to_ to select the credit card account receiving the payment. Tap _Paid from_ to select the bank account making the payment.

4. Tap _Approve_.

Going forward, as long as your bank uses the same payee for payments, YNAB will know to make it a credit card payment **automatically**. You may need to [approve the match](https://support.ynab.com/en_us/approving-and-matching-transactions-a-guide-ByYNZaQ1i).

### Android

### Web

1. Click on the account in the left sidebar to view your account register.

2. Select the imported transaction that you want to set as a credit card payment.

3. Click the Payee field and select the bank account that made this payment (found in the Payments and Transfers section).

4. Click the Category field and select the credit card account that received this payment (found in the Credit Card Payments section).

5. Click _Approve_ or _Save_. The payment will now be reflected in your Credit Card Payment category.

#### What if I make payments to multiple credit cards in YNAB?

If YNAB is ever unclear which credit card account received a payment, it may wait until both the outflow from your bank account and the inflow to the credit card account have imported. It would then match them by amount to determine the correct account.
