## What's Included in Income vs. Spending and Income v Expense

**Income vs. Spending** is available on iOS and Android by tapping the _Reflect_ tab. It provides a quick, at-a-glance review of the last six months and lets you know whether you're generally bringing in more income than you spend. You'll receive one of three messages:

* On average, you're spending about as much as you're making; this means your spending is within 5% above or below your income.

* On average, you're spending less than you make; this means you generally earn at least 5% more than you spend.

* On average, your spending generally exceeds your income; this means you typically spend at least 5% more than you earn.

Income vs. Spending can't be filtered or customized; you can find more detailed information in Income v Expense on the web app.

**Income v Expense** is available on the web app. It includes income and spending transactions from your Cash and Credit accounts. It also includes transfers between **Cash/Credit** accounts and **Tracking** accounts (which require a category). Why? Even though you're moving money to another account (which doesn't feel quite the same as spending), the funds are leaving your plan. If you'd rather not have these transfers included in Income v Expense, you can uncheck the categories that are dedicated to tracking account transfers. This will prevent transfers from showing as an expense. To do this, click on the category dropdown menu at the top left of the screen.

**Of note:** Assigning money to a savings category isn't the same as spending it — that money won't show up as an expense here until it's actually spent from that category. Only transfers into a Tracking account (not a regular savings category in a Cash account) count as an expense in this report.

**Want to review additional Tracking account activity?** Because this account type tracks account balances, you'll find that info in [Net Worth](https://support.ynab.com/en_us/net-worth-BkwQO5WA5) instead.

## Income

### iOS

![6 months of income are showing in Income vs. Spending ](https://cdn.bfldr.com/NIEXAZS5/at/5hbqn35qbgqphgg9bgjt39jr/Income-Vs-Spending-6-Months-Dark-iOS-Help-Article.png?auto=webp&format=png)

The most recent six months of income will be included in Income vs. Spending. The current month will show partial data as you categorize income transactions to Income: Ready to Assign. If a month has negative income (rare, but typically due to a balance adjustment made while [reconciling an account](https://support.ynab.com/en_us/reconciling-accounts-a-guide-BJFE3fHys)), no income bar will be displayed for that month.

If you've linked your accounts, you'll be able to review up to three months of historical spending data as well.

### Web

Income is every transaction categorized as Inflow: Ready to Assign, broken down in a list by the payee. Although rare, it's possible to have **negative** income, which is typically a balance adjustment made while [reconciling an account](https://support.ynab.com/en_us/reconciling-accounts-a-guide-BJFE3fHys).

Any inflows with a different category (for example, a refund categorized as Clothing) will be in the Expenses section, which is up next.

You can click any amount to get a full list of transactions, and each transaction is a shortcut to the account register for quick and easy editing.

Expenses are shown by category group, which you can expand to show individual categories.

The real key here is in the average column. While there's no such thing as a normal month, reflecting on the average spent for key categories can lead to real flexibility when new priorities arise! Maybe you're thinking about lowering the target in your Eating Out category because you'd like to begin planning and saving for a vacation. Great! Take a quick look at the six-month average in your Eating Out category, compare it to the set target amount, and celebrate the informed, spendful decision you're about to make!

## Net Income and Net Worth

### iOS

Your net income can be found in Income v Expense on our web app. [Net Worth](https://support.ynab.com/en_us/net-worth-BkwQO5WA5) is available on both iOS and in the web app.

### Android

### Web

Collapse both the income and expenses sections to quickly review your net income. You'll be able to quickly tell whether you're spending more than you make.

![net income is green & positive if you earned more than spent that month, but red & negative if you spent more than you earned](https://cdn.bfldr.com/NIEXAZS5/at/x6m4qsg4txfsc9phzbm9p58/IvE-Net-Income-Web-Help-Article.png?auto=webp&format=png)

You might expect your Net Income to match the change in Net Worth for that month, but Income v Expense does not include tracking account activity. Starting Balances are also omitted (unless the payee or category is changed) because, in the accounting world, they are considered equity rather than income.

Payments to your credit card accounts are not listed as expenses either—because individual credit card spending transactions are already included. Starting Balances and debt payments **are** reflected in [Net Worth](https://support.ynab.com/en_us/net-worth-BkwQO5WA5) , so head over there next!
